Shabbos Specials: Happy Birthday Israel!

Yum

This Shabbos is very special because we are celebrating Israel’s birthday! You are looking at a birthday cake for Israel I did from last year that bleeds blue, and is complete with parve icing! The cake recipe, I’m not going to share – it didn’t meet up to Miri in the Village standards. If you would like a good dyeable white cake recipe those look to my recipe for the World’s Best White Cake or even the Lavender Chamomile Cake – with the change using regular milk instead of the herbal infused milk.

What also makes this Shabbos special is that today I am giving you a two-for. First, I am going to give you a great recipe for Parve icing that tastes just like marshmallows! Second, I am going to tell you how to get pre-printed cake bunting! Woot!

Ok, here we go.

PARVE SWISS MERENGUE FROSTING
(THAT TASTES LIKE MARSHMALLOWS)
(adapted from Call Me Cupcake)

Ingredients:

  • 5 large egg whites
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Put egg whites and sugar in a heat-proof bowl in a double boiler.

The water in the saucepan should be simmering. Whisk with a hand whisk continously until the mixture reaches 65 degrees C. Remove from heat.

Start whipping the egg whites with a stand or hand mixer until they become fluffy and white and the bowl is cool, this can take about 10 minutes.

Ok, now on to the festivities. So you are wondering where you can get this bunting I speak of eh?
Ok, I won’t keep you waiting any longer. Here you go – and in so many colors!
I hope all of you have a great weekend no matter what you are celebrating. For those who are support Israel, pray for the peace of Jerusalem and Am Yisrael Chai!
