All opinions are mine alone. #PurinaONEVisibleDifferences #CollectiveBias I’ll never forget when I took my dog Moses home in July of 2006. Moses and I quickly developed a symbiotic relationship. I was his person. When I took home Elijah in 2009, I thought Moses would be excited. He appeared more annoyed than anything. Matt and I married in 2013. The dogs were not thrilled with Matt, especially Moses. 2015 brought us our first child. The dogs liked our son, until our son started showing a lot of interest in them. Small dogs can be easily intimidated by toddlers. So in 2017, we adopted Pete, an Australian Shepherd, Border Collie mix from Saving Grace Animal Shelter. Our second son arrived in 2018 around the same time we moved to the farmhouse where we currently live. The dogs have a whole acre to run around, and they hardly noticed the arrival of a new baby. Our family keeps expanding in one way or another, and the …
When I was pregnant, I went to great deal of trouble to give my son the cutest nursery ever. Well, after a couple moves, this poor boy’s room has become pretty plain. When we moved to this house, the room was a very berry purple, so we painted it white. Sure, it had some cute toys and even a teepee (which broke), but then all his toys moved out into the family room. The nursery became a giant, boring sleeping place.

When families with young kids consider getting a dog, they often prefer an energetic puppy. I get it. Your kids like to play, and you want a companion for them who also likes to play. There’s also the idea that you can mold the puppy into being the dog you want it to be. Well, I’m here to make the case that the best dogs for young families are older dogs.

I’m pretty stoked that Chanukah collides with Christmas this year. That fact that Chanukah arrives so late means that we can enjoy a “Chanukah Season,” and put up festive decorations for the entire month. I recently bought a beautiful, authentic mid-century sideboard for the entryway at the Raleigh Flea Market. The sideboard is the perfect setting for a Chanukah display. One problem: we have a toddler, and he can reach the top of it. I needed to figure out some toddler-proof holiday decorations, stat!
Chanukah may be lacking in the jolly department. After all, it’s not the most important Jewish holiday. But don’t you wish there was some kind of yuletide fun for the Jews to enjoy too? Well, let me introduce you to Kris Kringlestein.
It’s Thanksgiving Week, and in my house, that means Black Friday is coming. For me, Black Friday doesn’t really happen unless it’s a Target Black Friday. Any good shopper knows that if you’re in Target on Black Friday, you must check any online deals before you purchase an item in the store. You are likely to find free shipping and possibly a cheaper price for the same item.
This year, Chanukah collides with Christmas, and that may leave you feeling like you have plenty of time to buy all you Chanukah gifts, but don’t be fooled. The Festival of Lights will come sooner than you know it, and if you wait to shop until December, you’ll be fighting crowds and lines and Christmas music to buy for everyone on your list. That’s why I’m giving you a head-start with the Ultimate Etsy Chanukah Gift Guide for 2016.
Ruth Winkler is a graphic designer living in Haifa, Israel. Her designs and typography are fresh and clean. When I saw this Nation of Israel pillow in her Instagram gallery and etsy shop, I knew it would fit in perfectly my couch in my living room. A few emails later, and Ruth was working on my pillow, and it was on its way overseas!
