Review: 3rd Annual Slumdog Pesach (Part 1)

Hello! and welcome to the 3rd Annual Slumdog Pesach post that I have been ranting on about for the last month! It was a long, arduous journey, but so worth it. This post is only part 1 where I tell you about all the prep work and show pretty pictures of before the time when people come over. The picture below shows two DIY projects that I will have posts for in the future: panted vases and tissue paper flowers. The vases also contained pinwheels and flowers from my own flower boxes on the porch. Another future DIY post: handmade bunting place cards! This one belongs to Krystal. Both she and her husband Tony were a huge help in putting this on. Thank you guys! So pretty! So girly! I love it! I used brown butcher paper I got at the dollar store. $1 for 15 feet! As you can see, I used those wonderful DIY Passover Plates (tutorial here) to bring together the back yard BBQ theme. Completing this look were the pre-tied utensils …

DIY Twinkle Light Lanterns Tutorial

Looking to make your twinkle lights a little more festive, perhaps for a summer party? DIY Wednesday to the rescue! I have a fun, easy, and inexpensive project that will instantly make any celebration more cheery. Welcome to my DIY Twinkle Light Lanterns Tutorial! WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Small clear disposable cups. All-purpose spray adhesive. Assorted colors of tissue paper. You will also need a sharp knife (or an exact-o knife) and some scissors. DIRECTIONS: With a sharp knife or an exact-o knife, make two cuts in the bottom of each cup creating an “X”. Cut your Tissue paper into 1″ strips that are able to reach around the cup. Spray each cup with the adhesive, and wrap the tissue paper around, cutting away the excess. This is what it should look like. Pop a twinkle light through the “X” shaped cuts you made and you’ve got a lantern. Easy as pie! Yay, festive… šŸ™‚

DIY Passover Plates

It’s DIY Wednesday! If you’re anything like me you’ve been cleaning, cleaning, cleaning for Passover then cooking, cooking, cooking. This is the 3rd year in a row I am putting on Slumdog Pesach, and I have to say – making the same recipes for the 3rd time does make a difference. I am so interested in learning how to make the next new thing, and often neglect improving my skills at the same dish over and over again. Anyway, I’ve got something really lovely today for the Passover observant / Financially Challenged crowd (a.k.a. me). If you are doing your best to make your home kosher for Passover, but just do not have the money/resources to have a separate set of Passover dishes, you know all too well the shiver that goes up my spine when I think of serving my guests on paper plates. Not necessary people – let’s class it up a bit, that is, class up some disposable plates! Here’s what you do. Get yourself some clear disposable plastic plates, some spray …

DIY Air Freshener Tutorial

Y’all asked for it, and I am obliging – I’m going to try and make Wednesdays “Do It Yourself Wednesdays.” Crafts people, you gotta love it!  There is a family in Orange County I used to live with – lovely caring people. One night the mother and her daughter hosted a lotion/essential oil party, kind of like a Tupperware party but with smelly stuff. There were these really relaxing foot baths and hand massages. Basically this was the best party ever. Perhaps I am hyping this party too much, but it seemed that the next morning and every day thereafter the couches and the carpets seeped the sweet smell of those essential oils. I would go over to visit and just melt into their couches. There is something about essential oils that just smells different than everything else and also infiltrates the very essence of everything it touches. I’m certain that the essential oil sweetness stayed because the daughter of this duo eventually became a licensed massage therapist and would practice in her living room! …
